ISH APPOINTS SHAUN SPRINGER TO STRENGTHEN DIVERSITY STRATEGY

By: Sport Industry Group

The Institute of Sports Humanities (ISH) International has announced the appointment of Shaun Springer to its Board.

Formerly of Sky and most recently as Head of Brand, Sponsorship and Global Entertainment for MasterCard, Springer is also a Partner at 5Oceans Partnership. In his role with ISH, he will assist the organisation in strengthening its inclusion and diversity strategy by working with leading sports organisations to address barriers and increase opportunities in leadership positions for BAME individuals.

ISH was co-founded by Ed Smith, entrepreneur Andrew White and Sir Anthony Seldon, previously Vice Chancellor of the University of Buckingham, ISH’s UK academic partner, and is now expanding by partnering with universities overseas.

“I’m delighted to join ISH at an exciting time in their development,” said Springer.

“ISH is gearing up for their second intake of leaders within the industry and is expanding internationally through partnerships with overseas universities. There has been a recent focus on the shortfalls in BAME representation in sport leadership positions and ISH can assist in addressing that imbalance.”

Andrew White said: “It’s brilliant to have Shaun bring his knowledge and wealth of experience to ISH. Currently, less than 2% of senior governance and administration positions at football governing bodies and professional clubs are held by BAME staff and we will work with these organisations to tackle issues of under-representation. ISH is also expanding internationally to build on our UK presence and Shaun will be invaluable as we move forward.”

Ed Smith, National Selector for England cricket, academic and author, said: “We’re delighted Shaun has strengthened our team. We have enjoyed a hugely successful inaugural year at ISH and I’m excited to grow the Institute.”
